Most expected cut-off marks

UPSC – Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2020 is belatedly held on Sunday 4 October, 2020. Due to pandemic situation the exam, which was initially scheduled on 31 May 2020, was delayed. A group of UPSC aspirants petitioned Supreme Court for postponement of the exam, however the apex court dismissed the petition.

Ultimately UPSC conducted Civil Services Preliminary Examination on 4 October 2020 for which 10.58 lakhs candidates had applied and about 6 lakhs candidates [ps2id id=’Answer Key for Set A, B, C & D’ target=”/]appeared for the exam.

UPSC is known for giving shocks to the candidates by coming out with new strategy every time. This year also the question pattern was unique. This has confirmed the basic concept of the exam preparation that mere reading/studying books and newspapers does not help in cracking the prelims unless the candidates develop the core understanding of the subject with analytic ability.

To qualify Prelims exam one has to score marks above cut off marks in General Studies Paper 1 (GS). After the exam various sources declare the expected cut off marks and the same varies from one to another source. The most expected cut off marks considering all aspects is 95 – 100 (+ / – 3) for General category.

For the benefit of the aspirants, A A Shah’s IAS Institute hereunder provides the necessary details and analysis of the Prelims 2020 GS Paper 1.
