Centre moves to restore govt. in Manipur, holds review meetings

- The Centre is holding talks to restore the popular government in Manipur which will complete a year under President’s Rule on February 13, 2026.

- The rehabilitation of internally displaced persons and free movement of people from Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities through National Highways were discussed.
- Over the past one month, around 9,000 displaced people have returned to their homes from relief camps where they had been staying for over two years, another official said.
- Since there is no provision to extend President’s Rule beyond a year without moving a Constitution amendment Bill in Parliament, the government is inclined to exercise all options to restore the government, bringing the Meitei and the Kuki-Zo legislators on the same table, the senior government official said.
