Navy boosts anti-submarine capability with INS Anjadip

  • The Indian Navy commissioned its fourth indigenously designed Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) named INS Anjadip at Chennai Port.
  • The ceremony was presided over by Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff.

Key Features of INS Anjadip

  • Length: 77 metres
  • Role: Detect, track and neutralise enemy submarines in coastal (shallow) waters
  • Built at: Kattupalli by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers
  • Named after: Anjadip Island near Karwar, Karnataka symbolising historic valour

Capabilities

  • INS Anjadip is specially designed for littoral (coastal) combat environments and is equipped with modern shallow-water sonars, lightweight torpedoes, anti-submarine rockets, and combat management system.
  • It is engineered for agility, precision and combat effectiveness
  • Apart from anti-submarine warfare, the vessel can also undertake coastal surveillance, low-intensity maritime operations as well as search and rescue missions
