- Venezuela’s ousted President Nicolas Maduro will go on trial in the United States on June 1, 2027, a judge ruled on 22nd July 2026, after his capture in a U.S. military raid in January 2026.
- The former leader and wife, Cilia Flores, have been held in a Brooklyn jail after pleading not guilty to drug trafficking and firearms charges.
- They were captured by the U.S. military during a raid in Caracas, Venezuela’s capital, an action that Venezuelan officials denounced as a “cowardly kidnapping” and the U.S. defended as a law enforcement operation
