PM to Inaugurate New Secretariat & PMO Complex
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate the new Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Central Secretariat buildings and Kartavya Bhavan 1 and 2
- He will also chair the last Union Cabinet meeting in South Block, marking the end of an era.
End of the North & South Block Era
- The iconic North Block and South Block originally housed the British government was taken over by India in 1947.
- It was designed by architect Herbert Baker
The New ‘Seva Teerth’ Complex
- The PMO will move to the newly built ‘Seva Teerth’ complex.
- It will also house National Security Council Secretariat and Cabinet Secretariat
- Earlier, these offices were located across different buildings.
Kartavya Bhavan 1 & 2
These buildings will accommodate key ministries, including:
- Finance
- Defence
- Health & Family Welfare
- Education
- Corporate Affairs
- Culture
- Law & Justice
- Information & Broadcasting
- Agriculture & Farmers Welfare
- Chemicals & Fertilizers
- Tribal Affairs
The new feature:
- Digitally integrated offices
- Centralised reception systems
- Structured public interface zones
- Renewable energy systems
- Water conservation mechanisms
- Waste management systems
- High-performance building design
They are built to 4-Star GRIHA standards, ensuring environmental sustainability.
GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment)
- Griha norms are India’s national rating system for evaluating the environmental performance of buildings across their life cycle.
- Based on 34 criteria, it aims to minimize resource consumption, waste, and CO2 emissions, scoring projects out of 100 to award 1 to 5-star ratings.
- Key focus areas include sustainable site planning, energy efficiency, water management, and occupant comfort.
