DAC clears purchase of 114 Rafales for IAF, and six P-81 aircraft for Navy

Major Defence Acquisition Approvals Worth ₹3.6 Lakh Crore
- The Defence Acquisition Council, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for defence capital acquisitions worth approximately ₹3.6 lakh crore — one of the largest clearances in recent years.
- AoN is the first formal step in India’s defence procurement process.
For Indian Air Force (IAF)
- 114 Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) – Rafale from France manufactured by Dassault Aviation
- A majority of the aircraft will be manufactured in India.
- Combat Missiles
- Air-Ship Based High-Altitude Pseudo Satellite (AS-HAPS):
- The AS-HAPS platform will be deployed for persistentintelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), electronic intelligence (ELINT), telecommunications and remote sensing for military applications.
For Indian Navy
- Six Additional Boeing P-8I Aircrafts from the U.S:
- It will boost anti-submarine warfare (ASW), maritime surveillance and maritime strike capability
- 4 MW Marine Gas Turbine Generator
- Approved under Make-I category of DAP 2020.
For Indian Army
- Anti-Tank Mines (Vibhav)
- Used to delay and disrupt advancing mechanised forces.
- Overhaul of Armoured Platforms: Upgrades for –
- T-72 tanks
- BMP-2 – Societ designed infantary vehicle
- Armoured Recovery Vehicles (ARVs)
- Extends service life and ensures operational readiness.
For Indian Coast Guard
- EO/IR (Electro-Optical/Infra-Red) Systems for Dornier Aircraft
- Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) bought a production licence to manufactures Dornier aircrafts.
- EO/IR (Electro-Optical/Infrared) systems combine visible-light cameras and thermal imagers to provide 24/7, all-weather surveillance, tracking, and targeting capabilities
