Kodinhi: the village of twins in Kerala

  • Kodinhi, a small village in Malappuram district in Kerala, is a  record holder for the most number of twinsnearly 400 pairs in a village of just 2,000 families, the rate is over six times the national average.
  • While the national average of twin births is around 9 in 1000, in Kodinhi, it is as high as 45 in 1000 births.
  • No one knew exactly why. There had been guesses, theories and endless curiosity, but no clear answer.
  • Media from across India, and even from other countries, had visited, trying to understand the mystery.
