Kodinhi: the village of twins in Kerala

Kodinhi, a small village in Malappuram district in Kerala, is a record holder for the most number of twins — nearly 400 pairs in a village of just 2,000 families, the rate is over six times the national average.
While the national average of twin births is around 9 in 1000, in Kodinhi, it is as high as 45 in 1000 births.
No one knew exactly why. There had been guesses, theories and endless curiosity, but no clear answer.
